Name: Cassian Andor Door: Right Canon: Star Wars Canon Point: Andor, Post-1x12 ("Rix Road") Age: 28 Appearance: Still image; gif. Cassian stands at around 5'10", with dark brown hair and eyes. History: Cassian @ Wookieepedia As a note: this wiki entry has backstory information from both what was originally mentioned in Rogue One supplementary material and what was depicted in the first season of Andor, and there is some contradiction between the two backstories. Since Star Wars canon tiers tend to prioritize what is depicted onscreen in a film or television show as canon, I will follow the Andor canon. Personality: Positive Trait: LOYAL. Though his close relationships are few and far between, Cassian is unendingly loyal to those who exist in that small circle. Throughout the first season of Andor, Cassian returns to Ferrix, the planet where he was raised during his formative years, on multiple occasions, despite the fact that he's being actively hunted by the Empire and it's thus dangerous for him to be in a place he could be so easily traced, for the sake of the people he's close to. He risks that for Maarva, his adoptive mother, in an effort to convince her to leave the planet with him after taking his share of the money from the heist on Aldhani, and later, after escaping prison on Narkina 5, risks communication just to send her a message; with several parties interested in killing him on his trail, he takes on a near-impossible effort to rescue his childhood friend Bix from Imperial custody, and ensures that she, alongside a small handful of his other close friends, are safe on a transport to carry them off-planet before ultimately offering to Luthen Rael to join the Rebellion. Furthermore, even after close to twenty years, Cassian has continued to search for his younger sister who he'd left behind on Kenari, the planet of his birth. In his future beyond his current canon point, by the time of Rogue One, that loyalty will take the form of his steadfast devotion to the cause of the Rebellion, which he throws himself into unwaveringly, even though the nature of the work he's been doing for that cause has clearly taken a massive personal toll on him. Negative Trait: CONTROLLED. Cassian moves through life with an overall controlled demeanor, keeping his emotions constrained and the personal close to the chest, seeking to keep the upper hand in a situation whenever possible. From the time he was a child, he has had to lie about who he is for his own safety, for revealing his true identity as a boy named Kassa from Kenari could prove dangerous (and does, in fact, over the events of Andor's first season), which has set the stage for how he conducts himself, how he responds to situations, his interactions with others, and the relationships he forms (or lack thereof). He mostly tends toward the quiet and subtle, watching before speaking and speaking only when he feels it necessary; this is particularly true when he is entering unfamiliar environments, such as the team of unknowns before the Aldhani heist or the prison on Narkina 5. For the most part, he doesn't exhibit dramatic emotional responses, holding himself back from them; he can be seen even physically withdrawing from emotional conversations, such as those with his friends Bix and Brasso on multiple occasions. Such a way of operating largely prevents him from getting too close to people, and indeed, it's remarked at one point that "not many people know him" on his adopted home planet of Ferrix. In his future, as he accumulates more trauma through espionage and assassination work for the Rebellion, such emotional control will further lead him to detachment from himself, but even now, the pieces of that, as well as the way they negatively affect his life, have already long been there. Negative Trait: SELF-LOATHING. When Cassian was approximately nine years old, he was taken from his home planet of Kenari by Maarva and Clem Andor, and in the process, his younger sister was left behind; as he not only loved his sister but had also been responsible for her care, this separation, a failure (in Cassian's eyes) to do the most important thing in the galaxy for the only family he had left, arguably became a foundational event that set the precedent for a deep self-loathing that remains with Cassian from that point on. He doesn't appear to be the picture of genuine self-assurance even on his best days, but in the face of difficult decisions and their aftermath, Cassian tends toward drowning in that deep self-loathing; for instance, when Maarva does not agree to leave Ferrix and he travels to Niamos with his share of credits from the Aldhani heist alone, though he has tried to distract himself in a good time and hooking up with a pretty woman, the self-loathing from having made that decision to run is all over every inch of him. Cassian also particularly hates himself for actions he takes that turn lethal, even if that lethal action is what he sees as his only real option. Though he holds no positive feelings toward the law enforcement officers on Morlana One or Arvel Skeen, he does have a moment of visible horror and regret at his own actions after each of them, respectively, dies by his hand. There is a self-hating resignation within him by the time he comes face to face with Luthen Rael and offers himself to the cause of the Rebellion at the end of the first season of Andor, stating, "Kill me, or take me in". By this point, he doesn't see much value in his own life (he even responds to a friend telling him to take care of himself shortly before this with "It's too late for that now," showing that lack of value) — which will only become more pronounced with the work he's signing on to do. Negative Trait: ANGRY. Though Cassian's emotions are, more often than not, restrained, an emotion that does burn readily within him is anger; it's always there, just below the surface, ready to rise, ready to snap, like a rubber band pulled taut to its breaking point. Indeed, he's prone to engaging in tense and snappy interactions with others, primarily in a reactionary sense; when someone has provoked his anger, whether it's a close friend or a stranger, he can't stop himself from rising to the occasion with cutting words that he strikes with like weapons. This can be seen on countless canon occasions, from snapping into an argument with the other team members before the heist on Aldhani, to losing his patience with a reluctant Kino Loy inside the prison on Narkina 5, to tense conversations within his small circle of loved ones back on Ferrix. He tends to let bitterness tend to be on display, tends to let scoffs punctuate his words in many of these interactions. Cassian's anger, too, is something he isn't as adept in keeping controlled; it can often lead him to acting rashly and recklessly. This is, for example, what led to the escalation in his confrontation with the two corpos (law enforcement officers) on Morlana One, which landed him in a heap of trouble — and kicked off the chain of events seen in season one of Andor. Powers and Abilities: Cassian is a normal human, with no powers or superhuman abilities. He is, however, in the possession of many skills that have aided in his survival so far, and provide the foundation for his eventual role as a spy and assassin in the ranks of the Rebel Alliance. A very capable marksman, Cassian is quick on the draw and precise in his aim; people who end up on the other side of his blaster rarely live to tell the tale. He studies any situation he walks into, and is skilled at reading both them in general, as well as others' behavior in them, specifically; this is how he's able to blend in and appear as though he belongs. Because he has some skill with reading people, he can both assess their skills and navigate networks and communities, helping to bring people together to work toward a common purpose; this was on display in his instrumental role of masterminding, and carrying out, the escape from the prison on Narkina 5, and shows his developing potential as a leader. Inventory: Aside from the clothes on his back, Cassian will be carrying a blaster, as well as Nemik's manifesto, which is stored on a datapad. Samples: one (tdm top level); two (canonverse psl) |
